Bill Thompson is the commentator on the BBC technology radioshow “GoDigital”, his weekly “column” is available on the BBC website, and on Bill Thompson’s weblog.

I highly recommends “GoDigital”, and the best of all, it’s also Podcasted.

BBC NEWS | Technology | The rootkit of all evil?

Sony really messed up when they introduced the XCP copy protection, without telling anybody about it. The XCP scheme messes with the registry and has other nasty tricks up it’s sleeves.

Oh well, as a Mac user there’s no problem, as with other copy-protection schemes, the XCP scheme only affects Wintel PCs. Anyway, on most Wintel PCs the copy protection schemes, I’ve seen, like on the Missy Elliott album THIS IS NOT A TEST!, has been quite simple to bypass: simply browse the CD using Explorer, then you can RIP it, it will fail if you just try to RIP it. I discovered this by chance.

I did of course need a link to tuaw. Lots of interesting and quite well researched articles, that goes beyond the web “white-noise” hype that surrounds Apple.

A friend of mine just pointed me to the inhabitat website.

This is a really cool site that is showcasing new ideas and trends within design.

Quote from the inhabitat.com website:

Inhabitat.com is a weblog devoted to the future of design, tracking the innovations in technology, practices and materials that are pushing architecture and home design towards a smarter and more sustainable future.

This is a really cool Canadian Production company, that I just learned about from an aquaintance. It’s mostly a record label, but to quote their website:

Arts & Crafts is a record label, artist management, design house, distribution and production company… dedicated to the development and proliferation of beauty and greatness in all disciplines of the arts.

I think that Canadian “rock”/”alternative” (for lack of a better term) music is quite underestimated. It is in many respects similar to the Danish alternative scene, great talent and potential, but very limited international success. Successfull Danish acts, that you might have heard of, are not exactly “alternative” – for instance Aqua and Junior-Senior (oh well, maybe they’re a little alternative).

Another cool thing – you can purchase and download the entire A&C catalogue as MP3, no DRMs attached – thumbs up!
